About This Song
Lord, Command Victories Over Me, IJN
by Suzanne Davis Harden
There is an old hymn, “Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus…” I used to hear my mother singing it as she’d randomly break out in a hymn fest while Daddy was at work. He disliked. anything but swing music I think. But we loved listening to Mama as she brought forth the old melodies she’d sung in church as a child. We sang hymns in Mass every Sunday, though different. Yet beautiful also. Both kinds of worship music honored our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The cross of Jesus unites all who believe on the Son of God who shed His spotless blood as a holy sacrifice when He died on the cross for the sins of all people.
The apostle Paul wrote that Jesus Christ is the gift of God for all who believe on Him for salvation. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 WEB Now thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift! 2 Corinthians 9.15 WEB Indeed Christ is our beautiful gift from God to be treasured, no matter what race, gender, ethnicity, social or economic status, for God has no favorites His Word declares. “ …and there is no partiality with Him.” Ephesians 6:9. Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings,3.10 and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator, 3.11 where there can’t be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondservant, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on Him. 10.13 For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13
Jesus said that all would know who His disciples were by their love for each other. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
God has no favorites. He loves all of us. In His word Paul wrote that our enemy is not each other, but the devil, which some may or may not believe exists. However, Christians, if we believe in God, must believe in His enemy who stole His creatures made in His image from Him. For otherwise why did Jesus Christ the Son of God who is Spirit and not flesh have to be made flesh in order to bleed and die as the perfect Lamb of God to redeem our souls from the curse of sin and death, to unite us again with our Creator who made us to worship Him.
Jesus loves us. He suffered and died to save our souls from sin. Sin is the enemy of our unity with God, sin separates us from God and ultimately will keep us from Him forever. If we have no sin, we are united with God forever and hence, Jesus Christ died to give us His perfect righteousness so we can have perfect peace with God and be forever united with our Creator and live in the light of His love and not be slaves of the darkness. God totally loves each one of us with no regard to personality or anything for He has made us what we are.
Sin is the only thing that separates us from Him. Sin is the obedience to the enemy of God. What is that? God’s word reveals what the darkness in our souls looks like. It looks like anger, rage, abuse, condemnation, and hatred. Just read God’s word and pray and ask Him to reveal those things that hurt Him. He will reveal to your heart what makes Him sad. Lying, doubt, unbelief in Him…these so make Him weep…when He has given us so much beauty and so many gifts to be thankful for. To believe the devil’s lies over the mercy and grace and truth of God’s word is wrong. Pray and seek God’s face for your own self. Seek Him and what He will say to your own heart. He does not play favorites. He loves you and made you what and who you are and does not discriminate. His word says so and you can read it for yourself.
The Word of God is true. God does not lie. Jesus Christ never told a lie. He bore our sins in His body and suffered to save us from a wicked unseen enemy that seeks to forever separate us from our Creator. Sin is that enemy that keeps us separated from Him who loves us and wants us to be unified with Him and to give us peace forever with Him. He wants us to have peace with not only Him but with each other. Jesus said, Love one another as I have loved you. All will know you are My disciples when you love each other. Love is the defining hallmark of a disciple of Christ. So is honesty. Christ never told a lie.
The devil inspires lying, stealing, trespassing, but Christ inspires originality, for our God is a Creator. He created us in His image. The devil is not a creator but always a deceiver. He copies then pretends to be an author of what God made originally. But the devil only copies. He cannot create. He is a liar. His voice is that of the deceiver. Jesus said that the devil always comes to steal, kill, and destroy, But Christ has come that we might have life, and that more abundantly. (See John 10:10)
The cross unites all Christians. There would always be wheat and tares Jesus said. At the end of the age Christ said He would send forth a judgment to cull out the tares from the wheat. Who will dare to be courageous, to be a light for Christ, unashamed to stand up, stand up for Jesus in the darkness? Who will dare to say or post His name out loud? Who is not ashamed of Him and who has dared to speak aloud for His namesake?
I want to be brave. Lord help me to be brave and stand up, stand up for the name of Jesus! It is easier to post a swear word and pornography than to say or post a song singing “I plead the blood of Jesus over me in the name of Jesus, to cast out every evil assignment forged against me by the enemy.” Who is the enemy?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. 6.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.6.12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, Jesus said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man. 7.21 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts…” Mark 7:20-21
I can’t judge or find motes in the eyes of others, for Jesus says we must not ever do that, but I do find beams in my own eyes that need to be torn down by the Holy Spirit as I give them over to be examined by the Lord. I’m constantly wrestling with self-doubts, fears, and anxieties that hinder me from standing strong for my Lord Jesus who redeemed my soul that I might have eternal life with Him. As I remember Mama singing “Stand up, Stand up, for Jesus…" and “Jesus Make Me a Sunbeam” and am constantly bombarded with the self-promotions of books that look like moral nightmares, I think “…why can’t I have more courage, more strength to publish the gifts He gave me to share for His glory? Why do I allow fear and migraines to be my slave masters when. Jesus Christ died to set me free?"
PRAYER
Oh Holy Spirit come and help me stand up, stand up for Jesus, despite pain, physical weakness, and boundaries. for You are not limited! Your power, Oh Lord, is very strong on behalf of Your children who believe in You. Please give me courage To stand strong and be a shining light displaying Your love in this dark world. I plead Jesus blood over me, oh Lord Jesus Christ, come and cast these enemies of fear, doubt, unbelief, anxiety and stress out of my life, and command victories over me! Help me walk in truth, trusting in all Your promises, for Thy word never lies. Lord Jesus, break the enemy’s assignment against me to keep me from fulfilling Thy good thoughts of love and mercy and hope in my heart. In Jesus’ holy name. Thank You oh Lord Jesus, my Holy Savior and Redeemer, I love You. Amen and amen.
They overcame the enemy because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. Revelations 12:11 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. 6.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 6.12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 6.13 Therefore put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-12
"…and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. 3.14 Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. 3.15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 3.16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord. 3.17 Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him. Colossians 3:9-17
